I tried dipping her hair in vinegar and rubbing alcohol (that one was actually an accident), but she still chews. I know she will out grow it, but for now it is impossible to brush her hair, it stinks and it is just disgusting. I know I could cut it really short but it is already shorter than she wants it.

If you aren't willing to cut her hair shorter then something so simple as a pony tail if it's not already been tried OR you could make a big deal of a "day at the salon" with her and make a big deal of how keeping your hair neat and pretty is a big thing for a girl...sometimes all kids need is a point in the right direction for why something is important to really understand what they are doing wrong...it might sound simple but sometimes if you give a kid a chance to make their own decisions you might be surprised at their choices being the right ones.

i use to do that. my mom would put my hair away from my face by braiding it . if her hair is to short for a braid take her to the solon and have here hair put in corn rows about halfway back. it will keep it from her face and you can explain to her its not a good habit and then tell her if she continues to do this you will have to cut her hair short. i think that would do it

Hair chewing is not "just a faze". It can be really serious. My daughter's pediatrician had a patient who had to have a ball of hair surgical removed. The girl was a hair chewer.

My suggestion is that you put her braid her her and then secure any loose ends with clip. You may even want to put a hair wrap or bandanna over that. If that doesn't work have her hair cut really short.

The best thing you can do is either get her hair cut to a length where it won't reach in her mouth - or wear her hair up everyday. I don't think it would do any good to punish her and such - she's not being defiant, it's a bad habit, she probably doesn't even realize she's doing it until you tell her to stop..
