What might be possible reasons for hair loss?

I'm 24. I have hair loss overall, not in specific spots but its more noticable in the front. I don't take meds. The doctors will not check it out, they tell me its normal. My blood levels are normal, thyroids checks out fine.

I have been eating smaller portions and I have a vegan diet, but I'm careful to take supplements and eat varied foods...yet my hair is still falling out by clumps. I have experienced fatigue in the last two months, but I've been feeling healthier again.

And lastly, this has been ongoing for a few years. It grows, then it stops and gets thin, then grows again and so forth. Its just becoming more noticable now. I'm afraid to even brush my hair.

It could be genetic. Did your Mom and/or Grandmas lose hair?

Go to a really good beautician (ask for credetials). Be honest . Tell her/him about diet, drug use (including alcohol), stressors, shampoos, etc.

Look into your vegan diet...you maybe missing some nutrients that you need. Are you eating enough protein and vitamins? Also if you are not eating enough you could be malnourished. Hair loss is a symptom of eating disorders.

You should talk to other vegans and see what they say.

Have you had your thyroid checked? Get a TSH blood test from your doc to check this. It is the most common cause of hair loss in a young woman that I know of.

Hair loss is caused by many reasons such as malnutrition, illness, tension and other health problems. It is normal to shed some hair each day as part of a cycle of growing new hairs and loosing some. Badly damaged hair breaks at the scalp. Check out http://usefulinfo-hairloss.blogspot.com/ for more info.
