to maintain a full coat shih tzu, you should brush them at least twice a day and blow dry them after bathing. There are also two approaches to matts. First, you can cut the matted part (which is the cheap and practical choice) but if you can also use Vellus untangler (which is quite expensive).

2-3 times daily brushing is the best way.

i have a yorkie and for the most part i keep him in a slightly longer version of the puppy cut. even still he occasionally got mats so i spray him with a mixture of mild detangler shampoo and water, just a little to moisten the fur and then comb through it. haven't seen a mat on him since

Well, the best solution would be to have them groomed shorter, but obviously, you prefer the longer hair. Perhaps you should use a conditioner for your pup when you bath them or a spray-in conditioner works as a detangler. Be sure to be considerate of your shih-tzu's extremely sensitive skin.

If your dog has a colar on take it off while he閳ユ獨 inside the house. Visit your vet they can help you with a conditioner for him. They know more about your dog then if you were to purchase it from a pet store. Just in case your dog is allergic to certain chemicals.

Geta really nice conditioner and while it is still in comb it out.

1. to start have a pet groomer get the nasty snarls out

2. brush that area regularly

3. after you bathe puppy - use Johnson and Johnson detangler --brush that area with detangler, and keep brushing as dog dries

4. in between baths brush area regularly

You could bathe ---add detangler and try to get snarls out yourself- not sure how bad it is or whether it needs professional help to start!

Good luck. www.pugetsoundpetstop.com click Dr Pet Safe menu
