It makes my hair look ragged and frizzy. My mom said it's because of the way I brush it, but every girl I see brushes her hair the same way and she doesn't have this problem. How can I fix it and keep it from being like this?

get a trim every 6 weeks. just brush your hair once in the morning. don't do it all day long. that is what your mom probably means. don't brush it when it is wet, use a wide tooth comb instead.

use light hold hair spray or gel to hold the ones that stick out.. then improve ur brushing technique, use wide toothed brush. avoid rubbing ur hair with towel after washing, just pat ur hair dry. dont comb ur hair while its wet.

thoughs broken strands coming out are called fly-aways. u do probably have them from ur brush. maybe get a higher quality brush soon. also make sure u use conditioner a lot. also getting shine serum products get rid of those and make ur hair nice and glossy. my fav is called Silk Therapy

use sun silk TLC masque and creme. your mom is may be right, brushing your hair has something 2 do with it. use a comb instead. i would see a hair stylist and cut my hair for a shorter style.

try using a reconstructing treatment for your hair. joico has an excellent one called K PAK and it works to restore damage done by blow drying and heat styling. it also has proteins that will get soaked up into the holes in your hair to make it more smooth.

Wear it down more, and stop using scrunchies, or hair ties, or hair ornaments......Then try a good shampoo.
Fermodyl, Treatment and Shine #:2003 Moisture Shampoo
Followed by their Pink Fermodyl, Detangler, leave-in Cond.
Avoid the sun. If your out in the sun a lot wear a hat. Avoid Tanning Beds. Artificial light is just as damaging to the hair, skin, nail growth, and over pigmentation of our skin.
When we open our pores up, we need to be constantly shutting them as well. Emoilients and cremes are often not enough......as for hair,,,,because it has the same protein as our skin and nails (Karitin Protein),,,,we should treat it like we would our skin and nails.
Also Paul Mitchell has a good moisturizer....for the hair . I believe its called "Moisture Mist".....which is also very good for the skin, and as a hand lotion......but excellent for split ends

Do you tie your hair back in elastics a lot? That breaks your hair because you are constantly pulling and tugging on it.

You may be more prone to split ends and fly aways than your friends hair, because everyones hair is different, so what may work for them may not for you. The best thing to do is maybe get a trim, and really concentrate on the condtion of your hair so it dosen't get worse. Heating some extra virgin olive oil up in the microwave and applying it to wet unwashed hair is the best. Leave it on for at least half an hour. I use it about twice a week, just make sure you shampoo it out afterwards, and then condition.
Just very gently comb your hair when its wet with a detangler, and use a hair serum when about 80% dry.

You should cut it, not just trim it right now. Then, get trims regularly.
I know it's hard to part w/ long hair. I had hair almost to the waist of my pants. I went to get a trim and layers. The lady washed my hair and when she went to comb it it combed nicely until a little past my shoulder. That's where it was ratty and tangled. She recommended I should cut it and I took a deep breath and said, "Okay." I liked the cut in the end. (Sigh of relief)
Since then I've grown my hair out and it's a few inches shorter than it was to begin with. I get regular maintenance in regards to trims. I use a nice shampoo/conditioner (Sheer Blonde).
I still brush my wet hair with a brush (I know, bad) but it's easier now. I should use a comb though. When you're brushing don't tug or brush quickly. Slow is the key. Also use detangler to help out.
