no, because even though the tail is straight, it can still knot and mat up. I've had to shave so many tails because of this, and they look so stupid with a shaved tail.
I dont brush my shih tzus tail, the hair there is straight. should i lessen brushing him for straight coat?
brush every bit, just because its staight does not mean skip it... the tails get matted too. and need to be brushed.

If you wanted a terribly matted dog, by all means brush him less. I don't understand why you don't brush his tail, that fur will get matted also. When you got him you got a high maintenance dog that needs to be brushed every day. I know alot of people will take their shih tzu's to a groomer and have them cut down because of all the work involved in keeping their coats up. His coat should straighten out as it gets longer but please remember to brush him and his tail every day. And when a dog gets matted and you try to get the mats out it hurts them. Just think about what it feels like when you get a tangle in your hair and are working it out.
