Why does my Cat suddenly have excess hair??

I'm sure this has been asked a million times, but I've noticed over the Summer that my cat has a lot of excess hair on the back section of her. It's matted pretty good, and a lot of dead hair comes out when I brush it down.

My guess is that she is not taking care of her fur properly. What could be the cause of this, and what advice would I have to prevent the hair from continually building up??

In the summer time, cats shed alot of hair, and if you are not brushing your cat regularly, then when the cat cleans, it gets matted. It happens to me as well. I'm not as good at brushing them as I should be, but if you try to brush him or her every couple of days, you can avoid that.

She can be nervous, have you recently moved to another place with her? It can be something new in her surrounding which is not used to yet, a move out or a new face. If problems last, take her too a vet.

are you sure she's not just moulting?

is she a long haired cat? if so then she will require regular grooming anyway, especially during the summer months when they shed lots of hair. you need to give her a hand getting rid of the hair by gently brushing her regularly. i brush my long haired cat every day. luckily he loves being brushed!!

Don't worry it is totally normal.

During the winter months the hair grows thicker so that it can keep them warm and during summer time it thins out so that they can be kept cool. Its called "shedding" you will need to brush her coat frequently so that all the excess hair is brushed out, that way her coat will be shiny and healthy, it will also prevent her getting hair balls from licking and bitting her own fur to get it out.
